Would this course be repeated some other time this year? I am interested in the book design course but I would be unable to join in June.
Dear Nikita, The next course will not be this year but from January to March in 2017. Perhaps you could do it then?
Hi,
I am currently working as an instructional designer and am very keen on taking this up. However, the road block is that i’m a full-time employee, which means that i can only do weekend classes. Request you to let me know if there is such a provision for candidates like me.
Thanks,
Shreya
Hi Shreya, Unfortunately there’s no provision for weekend classes. We’d love to have you join the course and learn from us, so if you ever take a few months off, you know where to come 🙂 All the best, in the meantime—the Seagull team.
Good morning Team Seagull.
I’m very interested in attending this course and would like to take it up in Jan ’17 (for the editorial training). May I please know if there is a deadline for applying for the winter course in 2017? If yes, when?
Thank you.
Warmly,
Shruthi.
Dear Shruthi,
Thank you for your interest in the Editing Course. The deadline for sending your application for January – March 2017 term is 11 November 2016.
Hello Seagull Team
I’m interested in taking both the courses. I want to know if you have provision for doing that simultaneously.
Also, does this course give me a certificate of any kind? Is it recognized out of India? Will I get a job in publishing based on this course? Is there provision for placements? What format would the admission test be in? Will I be informed if I don’t get selected?
Do you think this course will take place in Mumbai anytime soon?
I know I have a lot of questions. Apologies for the inconvenience. But please try to answer them if you can. Thank you. ☺
Dear Aditi Vaidya,
Thank you for contacting us. To answer your questions:
1. Both Design and Editing are 3-month long, full-time professional courses and cannot be pursued simultaneously.
2. The School awards a certificate which is recognized by most of the English-language publishers in the country.
3. We do not guarantee placement. However, several well-known publishing houses are familiar with our institution and have hired our students in the past. Moreover, they inform us of vacancies. We then pass this information on to our students and alumni.
4. The online admission test is an hour and a half–long online test. No special preparation is required—it’s a fairly elementary test of English language and general awareness.
5. The School is based in Calcutta. The course is intensive, hands-on and classroom-based. Students are expected to live in Calcutta for the entire duration of the course.
Best wishes,
the Seagull team
Hello.
Does the school arrange for placements at the end of the course?
Dear Aldish Edroos,
During the course we have a number of professionals visiting us from various publishing houses and they share information about opportunities in the industry. Many of our students have been employed, a few work as freelancers and some have even started their own publishing houses. However, having said that, the school itself does not guarantee any placement.
Hope this answers your query.
Best,
the Seagull team
Hi,
I am very much interested in pursuing this course. Can you please tell me from when can we apply for the January 2017 course?
Thank you
Dear Maitrayee,
Thank you for writing to us. Application process for the January–March 2017 session will start from 1 October 2016.
Best wishes,
the Seagull team
Since the courses are 3 months in duration, does it happen only once a year?
We have two sessions a year — Winter Course (January to March) and Summer Course (June to August).
Will there be any placement after I complete the 3 months editing course?
Dear Sougata:
The School does not guarantee placements, although most of our students since 2012 are working in the publishing industry — several well-known publishing houses are familiar with our institution and have hired our students in the past.
Best wishes,
the Seagull team.
